Animation career in India. The truth and the best ever advice. I am Animator.

"How to make animation in India? Bro, I am in 10th class and I want to do animation. Man, I have just passed the 12th class, and I don't know how to make an animation career in India. Bro, I want to go to Japan to learn and make anime. I want a job in Pixar studio. I want to work with Disney. I want to make the next Naruto. I want to open my own animation studio and want to make animation movies like Disney and Pixar." These are some of the questions widely asked by my readers.

As many minds, as many thoughts, and as many people, as many questions. These are some of the most asked questions from the readers of my articles who want to make their animation career. Perhaps because I upload animation-related content on this website, people think that I can give them a career direction in animation. Although this is true to some extent, I can tell you what animation is, how you can learn animation, give you tips on animation, guide you, and animation industry and business work. Yes, I can tell these, but because I am neither a professional animation teacher nor a career counselor, I always refuse to advise on animation careers. I tell people to go to the person who owns the animation studio himself or who has experience in animation career or to those whose job is to give career advice.

Now it is not that I do not know anything about animation, learning about this industry for a long time and as an animator, I have got a good idea of this industry. I always think that many such students have to go in the animation field but they do not know from where to start and how to move forward, there is no such person in their reach who can give them advice, and being that student myself, I can understand this very well. That's why I will not give you any career guidance, but I will definitely tell you that what should be your thinking and approach in animation as a career, what is the true reality of animation as a career, how do you read and learn about animation from your school time and most importantly what are the difficulties you may have to face.

The Mindset

Before we move on to any learning advice, let's talk about a very common mindset, one that largely rules teenagers and early adulthood, and this mindset is the desire to learn everything quickly. Today, if we look at the Internet culture itself, then so-called entrepreneurs and businessmen roam here. From school-going children to those going for professional jobs, many people between them want everything very quickly and without effort. Today many people say that they will make a business company but they forget that there is a big difference between saying and doing. "I will go for running every morning at 6 am", now it is very easy to say this while eating your tasty pizza, but leaving your tasty pizza and going out of your comfort zone and actually getting up at 6 am for running is a difficult task in itself. And in the same way, many people see an awesome anime and take the decision that now they will make the anime they watched, which can be a good decision in itself. But the problem comes when they think that they will not only make anime but also open their own animation studio where he/she will be the boss and everyone will work under him/her.

Reasons

Now there can be two reasons for this, one is that they are still a kid and after watching some awesome anime, they got excited and took this decision and it is a common teenage mentality or secondly they are visionary.

Talking about teenage mentality, this is absolutely true, watching any anime and then thinking that now you will open a company in which you will make anime which is a very common thing in teenagers and everyone thinks of such crazy ideas in their teenage. Because thinking does not cost any money, just saw the anime and thought, which is very normal among humans. Now the problem comes when you start taking your crazy ideas too seriously in the wrong way. Even in my own animation journey, I have come across many people who take their mind off their studies because they have seen some anime or animation movies and now they have to make their own anime like that, and if someone tries to convince them, they fight with them too and often they say that I am visionary. Don't know anything about that field and reality right now but I am visionary. Look, I am not making fun of you by saying all these things, I just want to explain to you a common thing that thinking like this does not create company and vision. If I tell you in a straight way, then a person who woke up in the morning and thought of a crazy idea and even the world needs that idea, he just sits and keeps thinking about it and does not put any effort inside him, such a person is called an overthinker, not a visionary. A real visionary is the one who wakes up in the morning and thought of a crazy idea, analyzed it, read about it, understood about it, worked hard and learned for years, refine that idea, test it, and re-analyze and finally one day that idea bring change to the world because, "A vision is not just a dream, but it's about turning dreams into reality".

But if still, you feel that you are dead serious about your idea, then I will give you some important and core information related to this field.

Core Information

Let me clear one thing to you that there is not only animation in the animation industry but several important processes take place between this process. Let's take an example of 3D animation. In the journey of 3D animation, the process that takes place at the top is Pre-production. Pre-production contains Story creation, Concept Arts, storyboards, and Planning in which stories will be created and analyzed, character designs and concepts, rough sketches and rough animation also made to take the idea on how the animation will be done the final planning for the animation. Then it comes to the next step which is Production. This process involves modeling characters and scenes, texturing, rigging, lighting, and final animation. Then the final step is Post-Production. In this process, editing, compositing, adding music and sound effects, voiceovers, dubbing, and the final test takes place. After this very long process and great effort, an episode or a movie is made. The 2D animation process is quite as same as the 3d animation process except for some processes. Did you know that one episode of anime contains around 15,000 drawings in that single episode? If you ever think about animation, then realize that you are just thinking about the part of a very long process.

If you want to know the full process of how anime is made in detail then I have already written a very detailed article on it click here.

Years of learning

Now it is the same thing that not every person in the world is a visionary. But what do you know, among them all, you are the one who really has both the power and the mind to do something different. And if this is true to some extend, then start preparing yourself from now on. Whatever your vision may be, it will not be completed in one day, even in one year. You have to start from the very bottom and from the beginning and climb up one by one because life is not a fairy tale that everything will be served on a plate. You will have to hit many times you will have to start again, but if you are really serious about your dream, you will definitely leave all these difficulties behind. And never underestimate the human mind. That is the human mind who discovered zero and with the help of that zero, they reached Mars. That is why never overestimate yourself and consider yourself superior to others. Because the people start considering themselves as superior and bigger than others, then reality brings them down very quickly. So be real and focus on your goal.

Now it is possible that you are in school now or your financial condition is low due to which you are not able to pursue your animation studies. So let me tell you a very good solution for this too.

Start learning now

It is a very straight and simple thing that start learning online and start learning now. In today's time, no animation college or institute can provide a teacher bigger than the internet. There is no limit to the internet. Big professors and achievers who are masters in their field are giving free information on the internet. I know that in the beginning when you don't have any knowledge, neither you know the basics nor you know where to start, in such a situation it can be very difficult to learn animation on your own by going online. You just have to type on google like, "What are the basics of 3D animation?" or "How to start learning animation on your own?" and you will get millions of best websites.

I have already written an article on how to can learn animation and it is highly recommended to read. The links are below:-

How you can learn animation? Best guide. I am Animator.

How to get started with 3D? Best software? Where to learn? A complete guide to becoming a 3D artist.

Now when you try to learn from yourself, then in this self-learning journey you will be clear whether you are really serious and passionate about animation or not.

You have to remember that only making animation will not work for you, there are many such things in animation. And for that, you can check the youtube channel Hidden Caliber (Hindi channel) for knowledge related to animation, which I highly recommend. There are many more sources mentioned in my animation learning guide article (links are above).

Skills

Now this entire industry comes to a halt at just one point which is skills. It doesn't matter how many years of experience you have or how much software is mastered but at the end of the day, the only thing that works and is the most need of an animator is skills. Your experience and your software knowledge can definitely open new opportunities for you, but until you master your creativity and skills as an artist, you will not be able to make a place in the animation industry of any country because animation is all about creativity and skills. Any software is just a tool and it is completely up to the artist to create something new by using that tool. So if you want to learn animation and its underlying fundamentals, then just learning software or theoretical knowledge will do nothing, you have to create a combination where your software knowledge, your theoretical learnings, and creative skills work together and in this combination, also the part of this combination on which you have to pay more attention is your skills building. You can learn to operate software, but selecting a professional skill and mastering it to the core is a challenging and interesting task in itself.

Career

But after all this, the biggest question that arises is whether the animation is right career choice among top-class careers like engineering, medical, and MBA. Now look, all these carriers are completely different from each other and that is why it would not be a wise thing to dress them all together. But still, if we talk about the biggest and most important aspect of reality, then there is a similarity not only in these careers but also between every career option in the world. Now you have studied after spending so many years of your life. And after that, you have increased the skills in some particular thing, now after working so much and after giving so many years of your life after learning, you can expect a well situated and high paying career. No matter how much you deny to believe, but the reality will remain that none other is stronger motivation and driving force than money. There are very few such examples in this world where people have worked for any change without caring about the money. But other than that at the end of the day, the majority of the world population is focused on well-situated financial growth, and to be honest, there is no harm in thinking like that as long as you try to earn by legal and deserving source. Now again comes the question of whether the Indian animation industry is well-situated enough to generate a high-paying source of income? See, if we talk about a stable source of income, then yes you can get many stable job opportunities in the Indian animation industry. But will all those opportunities be high-paying jobs? Then the answer would be no. The reality is that right now our Indian animation industry is just growing, although we are not far behind, but yes our Indian industry is not so far ahead, where every artist gets a better package according to his skills and talent. Most Indian animation studios hire artists for a low salary package. But where we go further in other sectors like engineering and other well-known jobs your salary and earning potential can go up to a huge number like 30 lakhs, 40 lakhs per annum, or even more but in the Indian animation industry none artist can even think of such a huge package unless you are the supervisor or team leader of a big animation studio. Your earning potential in the Indian animation industry will come to a standstill because the industry is only doing growth, that's why the salary standards here are quite low. But the same thing is that the Indian animation industry is going to grow with increasing time, but it cannot be said when this growth will reach that level when every artist will be able to get well-deserving and stable job opportunities according to their skills.

Now the final decision is yours, life is yours and you have to live it. The reality is that neither I know you nor you know me. That's why by reading this article, you can get just a hint and idea, but how to choose your career and how to make it, it completely depends on you.

Thank you.
